Vacations mean something different to each person. Some people actually do not like to go on vacation because it means they have to do double-time before and upon return from the trip. Others keep a bag packed and go every weekend possible. Heading away from home to a unique spot for the fun and ESCAPE of life's problems or enjoy their sport. When interviewed, most confessed to being an entirely different person when out of the work-a-day world. The list was interesting and each ingredient is really part of the good ingredients of a vacation.

  • More relaxed - less tense, less of the must do, not as hurried, less of a time schedule
  • Willing to explore - try new things, try new restaurants, enjoy a book, find the history and hidden spots, find new trails or beaches, see where the road takes them, learning something new from new people we meet
  • Romance is awakened - sharing something new, finding out new ways our mate is changing and growing, savoring the sunsets and nature,

Building memories - we may not remember what we received for our birthday five years ago, but we remember where we vacationed.

Vacations and long trips do require some of the fundamentals when planned by two or more:

  • Ideas for a trip need to be agreed to by both in advance or a guarantee the other person's choice will be met the next time
  • A certain amount of preparation will include making the reservations, getting items ready to pack, finding the maps and pulling the funds together, reviewing the destination to see what is fun to do while there and creating a outline of possible activities.

Many interviewed said the fun of planning was equal to the going. With so much on the internet, it was enjoyable to review on-line brochures and learn about the areas they were going to.

Many adults expressed a certain familiarity or boredeum to always doing the same thing. While children love returning to a favorite spot, adults grow restless with this and want to add new and different people or things to do in the mix.
