Getting in the environmental groove is Club Med, a favorite honeymoon, wedding destination and vacation resort group of over 100 worldwide hotels. They capture the "spirit of GREEN and Sustainable" which has reached many hotel chains. This company's plan is making a huge environmental contribution to societies worldwide. We found Caribbean Club Meds on Anguilla, Aruba, The Bahamas, Caymen and Turks and Caicos Islands, St. Johns, St. Martin and St. Thomas and Haiti.

Their eco-friendly list of the Cub Meds weddings follows with many things the wedding industry could do anywhere in the world:
  • Elegant recycled paper invitations
  • Pesticide-free floral cake toppers
  • Creation of customized wedding ceremony (vows, readings reflecting interactive customs)
  • Romantic eco-musical selections
  • Bride's deluxe pesticide-free, organic theme bridal bouquet and matching groom's boutonniere
  • Locally-grown bridesmaids bouquets
  • Biodegradable, bird-friendly wedding rice for recessional
  • Organic wedding cake and vegan menus
  • Organic recycled paper guest books
  • Selection of organic photo albums
  • Edible favors and gifts
  • Eco-friendly transportation
  • Edible menus
  • Eco-friendly spa treatment packages (varies upon resort)
  • Club Med keepsake marriage certificate printed on recycled paper
  • Other unique eco-friendly gift ideas

With the above taken into account, the new wave of honeymoon and vacation venues offer their guests a decision on daily linen changing with the goal of lessening the water usage and soap in wastewater. The restaurants and hotel chefs are turning toward locally grown and sustainable fruits, vegetables, poultry and meat. With any of the Caribbean Island there is an abundance of local fish dishes and seafood.

Having stayed on Anguilla, explored its reefs and those of St. Johns, enjoyed the excitement and pleasures of St. Thomas and Aruba, I can attest to their beauty and exceptional island friendliness and some awe-inspiring snorkel experiences. I will applaud anyone who wants to preserve these wonderful islands and their environment.

Years before the eco-friendly concerns, I found the lovely island of Anguilla had made an amazing statement to save their reef environments. Anguilla was one of the first islands in the Caribbean to make an environmental statement in their laws regarding cruise ships. No cruise ships may come through the reefs to their island. Just a brief ferry ride from St. Martins, they found out years ago, from their neighboring islands, how the old style ship's hulls would cut and destroy the reefs around the Caribbean and even now, despite the flat hulls on cruise liners, they keep the rule. While this law dominated the lack of being a major tourist attraction, it became a plus for welcoming the exclusive tourist and movie stars.

Understanding there is a Club Med on Anguilla, it seems important to share my stay on the island almost twenty years ago. It was nearing Christmas Day as the warm air bushed my skin leaving the Anguilla airport with a friend. We passed an interesting man hand in hand with a very tall and beautiful woman heading toward a private jet on the ramp. He looked just like Al Pacino. We were met by a tourism specialist. She confirmed Pacino had been staying at a five-star luxury resort Cape Juluca, or the CuisinArt Spa and Resort or one of the other five-star resorts on the island.

We enjoyed our stay in a beautiful cottage that was part of the Mulliouhana Resort and Spa being renovated on Meads Bay. A private beach below the cottage, found us enjoying yoga in the dawn light. We spent many days with engaging interviews at a variety of locations and traveling to the villages to meet the friendly people in the tourism industry. The island is filled with exceptional resorts that famous screen stars flock to for the peace and tranquility needed to restore their spirits. We gained entrance to awe-inspiring hotels, reviewed luxury accommodations, and dined on spacious terraces overlooking the sea all the while looking for the rich and famous under every hat and pair of sunglasses.

My journeys captured information on simple vacation rentals with secluded beaches and peacefulness not found on other islands. You can find many of these on www.WeddingLinks.com. Our tourism friend's acquaintances gave us an invitation for a pre-Christmas dinner. Our host shared his background as an artist and lawyer (British trained barrister) for the people on the island. He shared many enjoyable stories of the people and concerns. The foods he prepared were island favorites and Caribbean BBQ. As we completed dinner, his views of the island became an environmental topic and their British history leading to the way Anguilla residents enjoy singing Christmas music. Very soon we were all singing Christmas Carols around the table late into the evening.

The island is equipped to handle your destination wedding or honeymoon with well qualified assistance from their many talented planners and hotel staffs. From snorkeling and scuba diving and enjoying some of the 33 best white sand beaches in the world to the artist craft fair and unique foods, this island offers an intimate atmosphere for those who visit this favorite Caribbean Island. Anguilla was formerly a British held possession and it is now a Dependent Territory to England since 1980.
