CHOOSING A DESTINATION

Planning a honeymoon is one of the most exciting and important challenges for couples. Many people have received a recommendation from a family member or a trusted friend, which is an excellent place to start. This article will discuss important aspects of planning the most important trip of your new life together.

The first step should be to collect information on the destination you areinterested in visiting, i.e., Hawaii, Mexico, a cruise, the South Pacific orthe Caribbean. Perhaps your ideal honeymoon is backpacking through Costa Rica or an over water bungalow in Tahati. If you are planning to traveloutside of the United States you'll want to find out about passport or visa requirements. The Internet, tourist boards, libraries and travel agencies are all excellent places to gather information. An important consideration is the seasonality of the destination. For example in the Caribbean high season (most expensive travel season) is between December and April, the rest of the year is considered "low season." For Cancun the rainiest time of the year is September. When traveling to South America or the South Pacific it is important to know that the seasons are reversed. For example you can snow ski during our summer in New Zealand.

You may want to consider what activities are important to you during your honeymoon. Are you interested in scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, tennis, golf or fishing? Or are you going to spend a lot of time relaxing by the pool or at the beach. Do you like to go out and explore the area or is ordering from room service your idea of an adventure? All of these items are important in planning a perfect honeymoon.

A good travel agent will take your wish list and make a recommendation that will make the most of your honeymoon. The best time to contact a travel agent is after you have narrowed your search to only one or two destinations. You will receive information on accommodations, attractions and activities from the travel agent and assistance in choosing just the right destination.

In the years after your wedding ceremony you may not remember the color of your flowers or the flavor of your wedding cake, but you definitely remember your honeymoon.
