ASK THE DIVA
Dear Diva: I'm interested in traveling to the Caribbean or Mexico. Do I
need a passport?
Signed: Just a Birth Certificate
Dear Just a Birth Certificate: If you are a citizen of the United States
you do not need a passport to travel to Mexico or the Caribbean. Of course it is always
best to have a U.S. passport when traveling internationally. However, for these
destinations you can provide a certified copy of your birth certificate and drivers
license. A certified copy of the birth certificate will have a raised seal or stamp with
an original signature. Please be aware that without proper documentation you could be
denied boarding at the airport or at your final destination.
Dear Diva: We've been searching for a romantic destination for a wedding.
We love the idea of getting married on the beach, but are concerned about the cost.
Signed Luxury Dreams
Dear Luxury Dreams: Have you considered a wedding in the Caribbean?
Several resorts in Jamaica offer a free wedding with a minimum night stay. Among them are
the SuperClubs Lido, and Breezes Resorts, Swept Away and Couples. These resorts include
the minister, license, champagne, cake and flowers. And YES this is a legal wedding
ceremony.
Dear Diva: If we choose to get married away from home is it difficult to
have our family and friends join us for the ceremony?
Signed Travel Bound
Dear Travel Bound: It's not difficult to include friends and family in
your wedding plans away from home. If you expect a lot of guests you can possibly
negotiate a discount and give everyone a great excuse to plan a vacation. For planning
purposes it is wise to plan a minimum of six to twelve months in advance.
Dear Diva: There are so many expenses associated with planning our
wedding. Is there a lay away plan for the honeymoon?
Signed: Breaking the Budget
Dear Breaking the Budget: The good news is that for most honeymoon
destinations you can plan ahead a maximum of twelve months in advance. A small deposit can
confirm your airfare and hotel arrangements. Payment plans are available for all budgets.
Most honeymoon packages must be paid in full 30 to 60 days before departure. Be sure to
ask if a honeymoon registry is available for your honeymoon destination.
